We Love Lists: Books I've DNFed This Year

Hi. My name is Rose Red and I don't believe in finishing books I'm not enjoying. I'm a mood reader and a lot of times I'm just not in the mood for the book I pick up. And I've come to be able to tell the difference between when I'm not in the mood to read something and when I'm not liking a book. I can't begin to tell you how many books I've DNFed over the years. Sadly, I DNF a lot of YA books I pick up. I've been the black sheep on so many books the last few years.

That being said, it's hard to write reviews for books I DNF because sometimes a book just isn't for me and I can't explain why. Other times the book is slow and info dumpy or I can't connect with the characters. Sometimes a book has major plot holes and I don't have the patience or energy to keep reading. But I think it's important to acknowledge books that we have problems with so I decided to do a list post.

Furyborn by Claire Legrand
This is one of those books that was probably hurt by all the hype for me. I found the alternating POVs very distracting and just couldn't get into the story.

Lifelik3 by Jay Kristoff
This book is actually don't know if it was the book or my mood that put me off reading this one. It felt slow and I just couldn't keep my attention on it. This is one that I'm on the fence about DNFing. Putting it asid while I was reading it was totally the right move but I'm still undecided if this will remain a DNF. I might try reading it again later.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
Maureen Johnson is one of those authors whose work is either a big hit or a huge miss with me. And this book was a miss. I just couldn't get into it. I found myself putting it down for days at a time and when my library hold expired I never felt the need to check it out again.

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young
I think this book's problem was that I was expecting lots of action and there wasn't much of it. It's very much a "It's not you. It's me." thing. I just found it boring after a bit and I had no motivation to pick it up. Which is sad because it seemed like it should have been one of those books I absolutely adored.

Honor Among Thieves By Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre
This is one of those books I DNFed early on on. I really enjoyed the sentient spaceships and the worldbuilding around that but the main characters and the premise of the story fell flat for me early on. I ended up DNFing only a few chapters in and haven't felt the need to try to pick it up again.

What books have you DNFed this year?
