Fairy Loot Unboxing: Book Subscription Box Review #3

Special Delivery!

Goldilox and I have been talking about book subscription boxes lately and we decided to try some out. Check out her reviews of the July Owl Crate box and the Quarterly Literary YA box. Also keep an eye out for more unboxings over the next few weeks.
(We are purchasing all subscription boxes ourselves and are in no way sponsored by any of these services.)

Today, I am unboxing and reviewing:

Fairy Loot Unboxing | July 2016 | Pirates and Power

I ordered the July Fairy Loot box because I loved the bookstagram photos I'd been seeing and couldn't resist the Pirate theme. This box ships from the UK so it's a little bit more expensive than some of the U.S. based boxes (for us living in the U.S. anyway.) But it's about the same as other boxes that ship internationally. I justified the extra expense because I knew there would be two books in this month's box (and because PIRATES.)

The first thing I noticed about the box is all the attention to detail, like the quote on the side of the box and the design of the letters inside. It's just so pretty! They also include a handwritten note card with a hashtag that only one other recipient will have. You get to meet someone new and have a buddy to read with. I thought that was a nice personal touch.
The theme of this month's box has two parts, so I'm going to go through the pirate part first:
  • The "I ship it" pirate ship tote is by Alice in Wonderbookland. This bag is super cute, but I'm a little bit concerned about how durable it will be. I have a couple of others from Zazzle that are a similar style but seem to be made of a heavier fabric.
  • Pirate Bounty coconut lip balm by Geeky Clean. I'm addicted to lip balm and can never have too many so I'm all over this item. I hadn't heard of Geeky Clean before I saw their products in this box so it was fun to discover them too. However, since they are a UK company, I'm more likely to look for something similar on Etsy than pay to ship their products.
  • Treasure Island gold foil journal from Museums and Galleries. (Some boxes had Articles des Voyages.) I have been using notebooks like this for my review notes, but this one might be too pretty to write in.
  • Inherited by Freedom Matthews. I had not heard of this book, but it sounds good. It's about the descendants of a cursed pirate crew who reunite to try to break the curse. The book was signed and personalized and there's a letter from the author included.

As for the Power part, there were two variations, frost and fire, inspired by the ARC included in the box.

  •  The book is Frostblood by Elly Blake, which releases in January 2017. I got the Frost version and I love the ice blue cover. (Fire boxes got a red cover.) I wasn't familiar with this book either, but I definitely plan to read it. There's also a matching Frostblood bookmark.
  • The Jon Snow Funko Pop keychain goes with the frost theme. (Fire boxes got Danaerys.) I don't actually watch GoT so this will probably be gifted to someone who does.
  • The Fireblood and Frostblood bath bomb is also from Geeky Clean and made exclusively for this box. My four year old keeps trying to steal the bath bomb so I'm keeping it hidden.
  • The Currently Reading coloring bookmark from might be my favorite thing in the box. I want a bunch of these to give to everyone!

Overall, I was really happy with the Fairy Loot box. I don't feel like I can afford to get it every month, but I would if I could. I'll definitely be watching for another theme I can't resist.
