Follow Friday (25)

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read

Here is this week's question:

Q: HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED AT A BOOK'S COVER AND THOUGHT, THIS IS GOING TO BE HORRIBLE? BUT, WAS INSTEAD PLEASANTLY SURPRISED? SHOW US THE COVER AND TELL US ABOUT THE BOOK.

All of the books I've had recently have had perfectly acceptable covers, so I had to dig back a little farther in the 'read' pile:

I mean, really, this looked like a story about some slutty girl who was dying. I saw it on the shelf at Barnes and Noble several times before I finally read the synopsis and the excerpt inside the front cover. OMG I have never been happier to buy a book in my life! This series is one of my all-time favorites now!

Good lord........why does the main character on the cover look like a ghost from the 90's? But have no fear, this series is actually an AMAZING urban fantasy and the other covers get much better looking!

I would love it if you guys would follow me using Linky Followers! It's so sad looking compared to my GFC followers!  :)

  1. That's the second time I've seen Halfway to the Grave already. I don't think it's too terribly bad, but the second one sure is! I haven't even heard of it, I'm going to have to check it out. Old follower :)

    1. Maybe its because the series doesn't really match those first few covers! Its not some cheesy PNR like it looks. If you read urban fantasy and PNR you should most definitely check it out! Its an amazing series! <3

  4. Those covers always turn me off but a lot of the time the summaries are so different then what the cover suggests. Good choice.

  5. I've got the Kelly Gay series on my shelf now and yeah. They really don't do it for me. Kinda like the Night Huntress one though.

    1. You should really read that Kelly Gay series. It is SO much better than that stupid frst cover. And I think the other covers are much better. It's one of my fave UFs now!

  6. I also passed up Halfway to the Grave several times because of that cover. I think The Better Part of Darkness is even worse.

  9. I like the Cat and Bones covers, I don't really have a problem with the way they are. I am a little put off by the cover of The Better Part of Darkness even though you love the series. Guess I shall have to give it a try anyway :)

  12. I've seen Halfway to the Grave a few times but I actually kind of like the cover! LOL I picked the book up totally randomly based just off the cover. A great series. The other book is kind of ugly though. Following GFC, linky, RSS, facebook, and goodreads.

  13. As much as I love the Night Huntress series the 1st cover is not that great. But don't let that keep you from reading it. It's AWESOME!

  14. 3rd time the Frost cover was is mentioned. I love it! Just has this awesome UF touch to it.
However, I absolutely agree with you. The Gay cover is NOT pretty. Would skip this one without reading the blurb. *shameonme*
