Review: How to Marry a Werewolf by Gail Carriger

How to Marry A Werewolf
(Claw & Courtship #1)
Gail Carriger
Release: May 13, 2018
Goodreads Amazon
Guilty of an indiscretion? Time to marry a werewolf.

WEREWOLVES

The monsters left Faith ruined in the eyes of society, so now they’re her only option. Rejected by her family, Faith crosses the Atlantic, looking for a marriage of convenience and revenge.

But things are done differently in London. Werewolves are civilized. At least they pretend to be.

AMERICANS

Backward heathens with no culture, Major Channing has never had time for any of them. But there’s something special about Faith. Channing finds himself fighting to prove himself and defend his species. But this werewolf has good reason not to trust human women.

Even if they learn to love, can either of them forgive?

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Parasol Protectorate series comes a stand alone romance set in the same universe. Look out for appearances from favorite characters and the serious consequences of unwarranted geology.

Review:
I have low key loved Channing Channing of the Chesterfield Channings since he made his first appearance in Changeless and was an ass. I've been wanting to know since what made him so grumpy and such a cad. His back story made me said because you know it had to be a bad one but finally seeing him get a happy ending makes me happy. And I adore his love interest, Faith, so much! The witty and brash American was definitely a good match for Channing.

Not everything has been rainbows and happiness for Faith. She leaves a town and family where she's hated only to be accepted and loved by London society. Seeing her find a place where she fit in was heartwarming and I love how quickly her cousins took her under their wing. Her cousin, Teddy, is amazing! But what I loved the most was watching her and Channing fall in love and how Channing is completely discombobulated by the experience.

When they first meet, it is extreme annoyance at first sight. He's trying to track down smuggled goods and she just wants him to leave her luggage alone. But as fate and a certain Alpha habidasher conspire to throw the two together on a constant basis, the whole of London society cannot wait to see the outcome. I shipped them from their first interaction on the airfield.

Carriger's characters are full of life, quirks, and secrets that haunt them which makes them both believable and loveable despite their supernatural circumstances. And I love what she did with Channing and Faith's backstories even though they broke my heart a bit. This book was such a delightful read and it is lovely to read more about the London Pack and see Biffy and Lyall again.

There was a bit of a mystery to this story but overall the story was focused on the characters and the romance more than the plot. But it completely worked! I was drawn in from page one and didn't stop reading until I was finished. I can't recommend Carriger's Parasolverse enough but these little novellas are quickly becoming some of my favorite books in the series. I can't wait to see who gets focused on in the next one!

  5 / 5 Stars!
