Top 5 Wednesday Bonus Post: Favorite Middle Grade Books

Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. Bloggers, booktubers and bookstagrammers post on a common topic every (you guessed it) Wednesday. You can find the lists by searching #T5W or Top 5 Wednesday. And you can join the group on Goodreads if you want to participate.

This week's topic is:
Favorite Middle Grade Books

A few weeks ago the T5W topic was Favorite Children's Books, which could have included everything from picture books up to YA. I asked my niece, who just turned 14, to help out with the list. She loves Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Lunar Chronicles and lots of books that are right in our wheelhouse. But I didn't get her list in time to post that week, so here's a T5W bonus post.
(I've included the Goodreads links in the descriptions.)

22749539
5. Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan
Echo tells the stories of four separate children who find the same harmonica years and miles apart.

12936
4. Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry
Gathering Blue is the sequel to The Giver.

13414814
3. Behind the Bookcase by Mark Steensland
Behind the Bookcase is an illustrated fantasy similar to Coraline

13316309
2. The Ghost of Graylock by Dan Poblocki
In The Ghost of Graylock the new kid in town hunt for ghosts in an abandoned asylum.

6261399
1. The Stone Child by Dan Poblocki
In The Stone Child, a boy to the town where his favorite author disappeared years earlier. While trying to find the writer, he discovers the monsters from his books are real.

I'm calling these honorable mentions because they're technically YA rather than middle grade:

49750
An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
Do all teenagers love John Green? It seems that way to me. An Abundance of Katherines is also a road trip story, which is one of my favorite tropes.

26085520
Everland byWendy Spinale
Everland is a YA Dystopian/Steampunk Peter Pan retelling.

18053060
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
The YA Wizard of Oz retelling Dorothy Must Die is the only book on the list that I actually own. I may move it up the TBR thanks to this rec.
