Goldilox and the Three Weres: Goldilox's Spooky Reads Recommendations

It's one of our favorite times of year. Leaves are falling, Halloween decorations are going up and we're all eating way too much candy. That means it's also time for one of our favorite events:

Hey guys, Goldilox here...and I LOVE Fall!
In Florida we don't really get much of a Fall as far as the weather goes, but I love Halloween and Thanksgiving and everything pumpkin related! Today I'm going to share with you some of my
favorite scary, spooky, and creepy reads and then I have a great GIVEAWAY!

Goldilox's Spooky Reads Recommendations

Anna Dressed in Blood
Kendare Blake
Amazon  Book Depository

Anna Dressed in Blood, and it's sequel Girl of Nightmares, are fantastic Halloween reads. In the first book, Anna is a terrifying ghost trapped in the house she died in, and Cas is the ghost hunter determined to rid the house of her. Even though I came to love the character of Anna, she is certainly scary as crap! In the first scene in which we meet her, words like "screaming", "twisting", "tearing", "bleeding", and "corpse" are used. Even though this is a ghost story, its also a well written YA duology involving friendship, teenage romance, and life or death situations.

Unholy Ghosts
Stacia Kane
Amazon  Book Depository

Let's continue the ghost theme, shall we? Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane is not only the start of one of my favorite series of all time, but a terrifically terrifying ghost story in its own right. Stacia Kane's ghosts are SCARY - they are black and white versions of their previously living selves who haunt places and kill people. The main character, Chess, has to excuse some serious power and spells to get rid of these ghosts. In addition, there are usually some pretty scary bad guys of the human variety as well.

This Is Not A Test
Courtney Summer
Amazon  Book Depository

This Is Not A Test is a book that has stuck with me even though its been a few years since I read it. It's creepy, it's surprising, it's  even jump-out-and-go-boo scary at times. This one is a standalone, and it tells the story of teenage girl Sloane, who decided today is the day she's giving up on life and is ready to end things. Enter the zombie apocalypse. Sloane's not really that bothered by the zombies though, as they might be the perfect way to end things. But, she's trapped in a high school with a group of other teenagers who actually want to survive. It's a gripping story that kept me reading until 4AM.

The Restorer
Amanda Stevens
Amazon  Book Depository

The Restorer is the first in the Graveyard Queen series. You guessed it, ghosts. I swear I didn't plan that. The setting for this story is gothic, eerie, and spooky. The tone of the writing, the way things are described...it's just a fabulously spooky read for this time of year! Amelia Gray is a graveyard restorer who can also see ghosts. Honestly, these might be the scariest versions of ghosts I've ever read. The people they haunt don't realize the ghosts have attached themselves to them, and the ghosts slowly leech the life and happiness out of people over a long period of time until they eventually die. Meanwhile, Amelia often gets herself caught up in helping solve murder mysteries that are just a scary as the ghosts. Recommended reading with your night light on.

My Life As A White Trash Zombie
Diana Rowland
Amazon  Book Depository

Okay, okay, this one isn't exactly spooky or scary. My Life As A White Trash Zombie is more funny than freaky, but it's still good ole fashioned zombies - perfect for Halloween! Angel Crawford is a Southern girl with a bad back story, but one day a series of events leads to to becoming a zombie. She has to eat brains to survive and she constantly has to worry about her body rotting, but she also manages to become kind of a bad ass. These stories have some of the BEST one liners ever in urban fantasy and the main plot threads in each book in the series are well written and exciting. Something to read after finishing all that scary stuff above!

So that's it! Those are my book recommendations for this spooky time of year. Now...the GIVEAWAY!
