Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with this exclusive ebook short story set shortly before the events of the film, featuring a quick-witted mercenary who takes big risks for bigger rewards—and now faces the challenge that will take her to the edge.

There are plenty of mercenaries, spies, and guns for hire in the galaxy. But probably none as dangerous and determined as Bazine Netal. A master of disguise—and lethal with a blade, a blaster, or bare handed—she learned from the best. Now it’s her turn to be the teacher—even if schooling an eager but inexperienced recruit in the tricks of her trade is the last thing she wants to do. But it’s the only way to score the ship she needs to pull off her latest job.

An anonymous client has hired Bazine to track down an ex-stormtrooper and recover the mysterious package he’s safeguarding. Payment for the mission promises to be astronomical, but the obstacles facing Bazine will prove to be formidable. And though her eager new sidekick has cyber skills crucial to the mission, only Bazine’s razor-sharp talents will mean the difference between success or failure—and life or death.

Review:
A few months ago, I talked about the fact that everyone at the blog was obsessed with Killjoys on SyFy. Well, A Perfect Weapon is a lot like Killjoys, only better because it's STAR WARS. Bazine, like Dutch, was taken in by her mentor as a child and trained to be spy. Also like Dutch, she is a serious badass.
Perhaps he'd thought to forge her into the perfect weapon, but the sharpening had been her own doing.
For her latest mission, retrieving a case from a former stormtrooper, Bazine visits her mentor to borrow a ship. He agrees, but only if she'll take his latest trainee along as well. I loved Orri, who's much better with computers than with people, and I loved Orri and Bazine together even more. The story has plenty of action, spy craft, and some creepy giant bugs.

It also got me thinking about stormtroopers. I knew there were real people in there - Han and Luke knocked them out and stole their suits. But I never really thought about them. The idea that there could be medical facilities or retirement homes for old stormtroopers kind of blew my mind. But it also helped get into that "where are they now" mindset to start thinking about The Force Awakens.

I'm getting excited to see it now, though I haven't seen a Star Wars movie in years. I want to know if the contents of that case play a role in the film. And I want to know what happens to Bazine. They'd better not kill her - I'd love to see her in a TV show.

If you're looking for a Star Wars appetizer before seeing the movie this weekend, check out this fun short!

Recommended for fans of: Star Wars (of course) and Killjoys

  1. Nice! I didn't know that Delilah S. Dawson had a Star Wars story out! I'm going to have read this one. I really enjoyed her Blud novels.
