I’ve been a huge fan of Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels series for years now, but I was a little hesitant to read The Edge series. The Kate books set high expectations for this series to live up to and I’m relieved to say that it definitely met them and exceeded them!

This is a series where I loved so many of the characters! Seriously, can I be adopted into the Mar family? It would never be boring. This series is a nice mix of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Each book features a different couple. And while there is romance in each one, it doesn’t take over the plot and there’s lots and lots of action in true Andrews style.

The world and the magic system is fascinating! The world is divided into three parts: the Broken (the non-magic world), the Weird (the magic portion), and the Edge (the place in between that has magic but not a lot of it). Most of the series takes place in the Edge and it’s a truly fascinating place. I think if you could think of any magic user whether they be a necromancer or a hedge witch, they’ll be found in the Edge. Not to mention, there are shifters of all kinds in these books! I found the concept of flashing fascinating! Flashing is the art of using magic as a defensive weapon and of course there are different power levels that correspond to the person’s flash color. I particularly love the Mar family’s flash technique!

This series was amazing and everything I wanted it to be! I can always trust Ilona Andrews to write a kickass book with awesome characters and amazing worldbuilding. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that we’ll get more books in this series! It would be awesome if they concentrated on the younger generation when they’re grown up! Gah! I want those books so badly!

I could gush about this series for days. I loved every minute of my read and I look forward to rereading it in the future. I adored it so much! If you haven’t read it yet, you need to fix that ASAP. I promise you won’t regret it. And as long as you’re reading this series, you should read Andrews’s Kate Daniels series while you’re at it.

  1. I agree with you completely. I just loved this series to pieces. I don't think it got the love that it should've gotten. I also wish they would go back and write a story about the boys. :-)

    1. Apparently, the boys make appearances in their Innkeeper Chronicle books! It makes me want to read those even more!

  2. I didn't love this series like Kate Daniels. I read the first three but haven't gotten around to #4 yet.

  3. I gave up part way into the first book a few years ago. I'm such a fan of the Kate Daniels series that I recently gave the series another go. This time I enjoyed it, but it wouldn't be the first PNR series I'd recommend.
