With tentative peace established in Faerie, Thierry returns to her job as a conclave marshal in Texas while the countdown to her coronation begins. But what happens in Faerie doesn't always stay in Faerie. A crown wasn't Theirry's only souvenir from her trip. Her new husband, Rook, is scheming again, and this time his plans are invading her dreams.

When her best friend throws a beachside going away party, Thierry is grateful for the distraction from Rook...and from Shaw. But her presence in Daytona rouses an old evil, one who wants the future queen as the crown jewel of his private collection.
Review: Thierry Thackery has been given one year to return to her old life, set her affairs in order and adjust to the idea of being the new Queen of Faerie. Her new husband Rook will rule as Regent and teach her how to be a monarch during that time. But Thierry plans to use the time to find a way out of the arrangement that Rook manipulated her into.

I was happy to see Thierry working as a marshal again after spending most of the last book in Faerie, but it was short-lived. Thierry's obsessed with getting out of her marriage to Rook and not making the best decisions. Pursuing a suspect that she shouldn't have gets her suspended. So she agrees to go to Daytona with her best friend Mei for what might be their last girls' getaway before Thierry takes her place on the throne.

They're accompanied by two stoic Faerie guards assigned by Rook, and Diode, somewhat disguised as a house cat. I really enjoyed Diode's curmudgeon-y attitude. He's like a magical Garfield on steroids. And I had high hopes for Thierry to break through her guards crusty exteriors, but it didn't quite work out that way.

On the way to Florida, Thierry starts receiving mysterious and potentially threatening phone calls. Then her guards sense a guest at their hotel using old and dangerous magic. Thierry's distracted from investigating him by a group of Selkies she meets on the beach. I liked the addition of the Selkies to the world and the way that their story tied in to the larger plot.

Meanwhile her ex-boyfriend and ex-partner Shaw is investigating a decade old disappearance in nearby Orlando ready to jump in and help if needed. I was happy to see him back in her life, even though their relationship is awkward for much of the book.

I was a little bit disappointed that I guessed who the caller was right away. The other villain, however, threw in some twists I wasn't expecting. But I felt like there were a few too many coincidences in the plot.

Lie Down With Dogs isn't my favorite installment in this series so far, but I enjoyed it. Edwards throws in some huge twists at the end. I'm excited to see what's next for Thierry and Shaw.
