Review: Fall With Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Fall With Me
(Wait For You #4)
Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release: March 31, 2015
Goodreads Amazon
Jennifer L. Armentrout, New York Times bestselling author of the Wait for You series, delivers a new novel of first love, second chances, and scorching chemistry.

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She's been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She's sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.
Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She's not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn't convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn't believe him, he's not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He's already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he's not going to let history repeat itself.

Review by Rose Red:

Jennifer Armentrout’s Wait for You series is my favorite New Adult series on the market right now. I love how all the books are connected together by reoccurring secondary characters, but each story still has a unique feel to it. This book is probably my favorite of the series, or it's at least tied with book one. I absolutely LOVED it!

Roxy and Reece’s story was different than I had expected, which made it even more enjoyable. Fall with Me was the perfect mix of steam, romance, emotion, and suspense. I was intrigued by what we saw of Roxy and Reece in Stay with Me and looked forward to seeing why Roxy was so intent on avoiding Reece. What I didn’t count on was Armentrout breaking my heart in the process with a story of friendship and the pain and guilt of regret.

Roxy has been in love with Officer Reece Anders since she was 15 years old. They had a one-night stand almost a year ago, but Reece made it clear he wished that night never happened. Hurt by Reece’s apparent dismissal of their time together, Roxy does her best to distance herself from him. Suddenly weird things start to happen to Roxy. She dismisses them until something happens that makes her worry about her safety. Believing it is the man who ruined her best friend’s life and is currently looking for forgiveness, Roxy reluctantly involves the man who broke her heart. Reece is determined to keep Roxy safe at all costs, as well as set the record straight about their past and future together.

Probably since the books in this series are on my auto-buy list, I realized that I didn't have any clue about what the book was about other than it was Roxy's story. Since I hadn't read the synopsis I had no idea about what had happened to Roxy’s friend so that first chapter hit me pretty hard. Roxy’s anguish and guilt were palpable. Although as a reader I never held her at fault, I think that if I were in her shoes I would have felt the same way she did. Despite her self-blame, Roxy was a dedicated and true friend. It was clear during her weekly visits how much she adored Charlie, and how difficult it was seeing him as a shadow of his former self. I was rooting for her to find a way to forgive herself.

I adored Roxy’s wit and quirky attitude, not to mention her awesome t-shirts. It made me laugh every time she attempted to avoid Reece because that man who was not going to let her get away without setting the record straight. Guys! I absolutely loved Reece! Seriously. He may have just pushed Cam out of the number one spot as favorite love interest in this series. I appreciated how straightforward Reece was with Roxy. He wasn’t interested in playing games. Reece was sexy, dedicated to his job and Roxy, and just an all-around good guy. What I loved the most about him, though, was how he helped Roxy understand that she couldn’t live her life for her friend. He was incredibly supportive and encouraged her to follow her heart and her passion.

What I truly loved about this book was that nothing was dragged out. We didn't have to wait the majority of the book to see Reece and Roxy get together. Armentrout pretty much puts you right into the middle of things right from the start. The mystery/suspense of the story is throughout the whole book, but that just makes you want to turn the pages faster to find out how it all plays out.

Seriously. Everything was on point with this story. There was great chemistry between Roxy and Reece and a good balance of romance and heat. Roxy’s story tugged at my heart more times than I could count, and I definitely shed some tears. Add in healthy doses of snark, angst, and suspense, and Armentrout knocked this one out of the park. I loved the overall message about letting go in the book. Nick was a primary secondary character in this installment, and I enjoyed getting to know him more. I SO can’t wait to read to his story next! Whenever I am looking for a great book in the New Adult genre, I know I can always count on Jennifer Armentrout.
