Waiting on Wednesday (45) - Sixth Grave on the Edge

Sixth Grave on the Edge
Darynda Jones
Release: May 20, 2014
Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it's time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn't come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.

Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she's used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.

I ADORE the Charley Davidson series! Its one of my absolute favorites. So, of course I'm drooling over this book. The way the fifth book ended was so surprising and I can't wait to see what Charley says to Reyes in this one!!!

What is your WOW pick this week?

Review: My Favorite Mistake by Chelsea M. Cameron

My Favorite Mistake
(My Favorite Mistake #1)
Chelsea M. Cameron
Release: August 27, 2013
Goodreads   Amazon
Two secrets. One bet. Who will break first?

Taylor Caldwell can't decide if she wants to kiss her new college roommate or punch him.

On the one hand, Hunter Zaccadelli is a handsome blue-eyed bundle of charm. On the other, he's a tattooed, guitar-playing bad boy. Maybe that's why Taylor's afraid of falling in love with him, or anyone else. She doesn't want to get burned, so she needs him gone before it's too late.

Hunter himself has been burned before, but Taylor's sexy laugh and refusal to let him get away with anything make her irresistible. Determined not to be kicked out of her life without a fight, Hunter proposes a bet: if she can convince him she either truly loves or hates him, he'll leave the apartment;and leave her alone.

But when the man behind Taylor's fear of giving up her heart resurfaces, she has to decide: trust Hunter with her greatest secret, or do everything in her power to win that bet and drive him away forever.

Review:

Okay, listen. First let's address the elephant in the room...this book is not paranormal. Everyone okay? Shock wear off yet? This book is my first new adult AND my first contemporary romance (I read some a few years back, but those barely count). Cherry popped ya'll. I have been hounded by fellow bloggers for months to check out some romance sans the paranormal and I finally took the plunge.

A lot of my resistance to rom com, and really any non-speculative fiction book, was that I like the world building, the 'otherness' that sci-fi/paranormal/fantasy brings. But, I have to admit that I'm also enjoying the contemporary books I've read so far!

So, on to MY FAVORITE MISTAKE by Chelsea M. Cameron! This new adult story is about two college students that find themselves roommates unexpectedly and the ups and downs they deal with as they try to figure out 'what' they are. Probably my most favorite thing about this book was Taylor. She was not the swoony, love-at-first-sight type at all. She wasn't overly angsty either. Part of my concern for new adult as a genre is that it tends to lean toward angst city, but Taylor was a good medium between the two. I could respect her, laugh with her, and relate to her.

I know I said Taylor was probably my favorite aspect of this book, but...I lied. HUNTER. Holy sex on a stick! He was a great mix of things - confident, cocky, sensitive, anxious, lovable......the list goes on and on. And the boy could COOK! I love the fictional man who knows that things between himself and the leading lady are only inevitable and is willing to just bide his time until said lady realizes this.

Hunter was never sleazy with Taylor and his inappropriate comments were always met with Taylor's snark. The author showed us that Hunter could be a little extra bold because Taylor could handle herself (which she proved the moment she met him, HA!) The love/hate tension between the two of them throughout the book was terrific. By the time they kissed for the first time I was mentally shaking Taylor to give it up and jump into Hunter's bed already!

MY FAVORITE MISTAKE was a really good outing into the world of contemporaries for me. There were a lot of the expected plot aspects of a book in this genre, but the writing was great and the characters were even better. I've already picked up book two in the series and I can't wait to read it!

Recommended for fans of: Contemporary new adult, Jennifer L. Armentrout/J.Lynn, cocky bad boys with tattoos, snark central, girls that can take care of themselves, and delicious meals.
