Follow Friday (28)

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read

Here is this week's question:

Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

Yep! Isn't it funny how sometimes the things people say about some books just make you want to read it more? I requested an advance copy of The Selection even with all the drama going on and didn't read any of the negative stuff until after I read and reviewed the book. I knew there was some serious drama and that just hyped the book up more for me, lol! And guess what? I freaking loved it!

I will also be reading the Fifty series soon despite, or maybe because of, all the drama. People who try to bash books and talk people out of reading certain things don't realize that it sometimes it has the opposite effect!

  1. Good post, Goldi! Like I said, it's one thing to not like a book for reasons such as poor writing, bad characters, no plot, etc. But when I read reviews with personal attacks in them, I tend to become curious about what is in the book that is causing that reaction.

  6. I absolutely agree. Just because others don't like something doesn't mean you wont.

I plan to get The Selection when it comes out.

  7. I'm glad you disregarded the drama until you'd actually read the book- it is better to make up your own mind than to follow the crowd!

  10. You just never know sometimes. I've certainly loved books that others have hated and vice versa. I read Fify (1 and 2) for that exact reason... I wanted to be able to formulate my own personal opinion. Good luck though hahaha

  14. Hi,
Already a follower. Thanks again for the gift cert. to Amazon!! I wouldn't buy a book intentionally because it had bad reviews, but I definitely don't let bad reviews keep me from buying a book that I am interested in.
